yes.
dont hold your clutch pedal down when starting the engine from cold.
its common to occur at that time.

Hi buddy,
I just got through the door a little while ago as I had too much on the Garage. Quakes's car had the number 3 piston down so we decided that we will work on it after hours to try and keep the cost down for him to a minimum. We managed to strip the head and the bottom end with the engine in the car and replaced all 4 pistons with very low mileage Evo VI pistons that we had lying around. Took the best part of two and half hours to get it done and then an hour to let the engine get a run in and monitor the vitals before we decided to have a lads night out!!!
Any how Ash buddy, here is the answer as promised:
Crank walk occurs usually when it has not been lubricated by the engine oil. The main cause of this is ultimately attributed to the clutch pedal being dipped when the car has a cold start. There is minor vibration caused at this time and slowly, but surely, over time it becomes major vibration!! Hence the saying "crank walk" as in; the crank has gone for a walk!! Meaning that it has moved from the original position.
It was taken into consideration when the Evo V engine was under development and amendments of sorts were implemented.
Many people mock the Evo using this so called down fall as an excuse, the fact of the matter remains that it can occur in ANY engine and this has become a notorious topic associated with the Evo's by all those who are haters and have nothing better to do with their time.
Offer them an Evo and they will soon jump up and say yes please

What I do to check for crank walk is put the car on the ramp and grab the crank pulley with both hands and pull the pulley towards me and then back towards the engine. This should be done a couple of times to see if there is ANY movement. The crank should not have ANY movement. If there is any movement then the car has crank walk which is known in the game as End float.
