so what fuel do you use??

as in title
i run a mk4 golf gti turbo an its stage 2 remap is set to run on super only
so i always used shell optimax ...which is now shell vpower.
so thats what i been using in the evo
but people i know used tesco 99 ron an get club points.
so what im askin is does it run any better on shell as opposed to any other super unleaded?

in my opinion no, it doesnt run any better.. id say it was the same mate.. when i had the car mapped it had half a tank of both in though, but i doubt that made a difference

Filling mine the other day and it recommends 98+ RON - so thats exactly what she gets.

Id always try to use optimax. Normal wont do any harm but id try to avoid unless it was neccessary.
Either that or some funny fuel. £3+ a litre its probably not for normal use

Well I've always used Shell V Power in my evo as the ron is different (supposedly)

I've used normal unleaded in the past (when the fuel was stupidly priced-still is LOL) and then used an octane booster which wasn't very effective at all.

hello mate. i only use vpower in my evo. apparently the cleaning properties are superior to the old optimax and way better than the supermarket fuel. i have a suzuki gsxr 1000 with a fair few mods and it feels more responsive on vpower compared to anything else.

ok just checkin as since i had the car i filled up with vpower an the engine management light came on
so i took it to dealers who cleared it an said it was a fuellin problem
so today on way home from work i was in the wrong lane so booted it to get ahead an cut in...what ya know the light back on...is this a fuel problem??
as i gotta take it back now an get shafted for anothe r40 quid to turn it off

you could ask what fuel they would recommend or if when they say fuelling problem they mean a problem with the fuel system? ie a weak fuel pump or blocked fuel filter which would both cause low fuel pressure? that may cause the light to come when you drive hard because of the increase in fuel needed? just a thought.

Makes good sense to me.

Sensors all over the ECU could send lots of lights on.

If fuel pressure is low then the pump may be Knackered. If the filter is blocked - same scenario. If both are knackered it's full stop..

Good point Gazza.

I'd say (from having one before) change the fuel filter. If that is blocked then its full stop anyways even if the pump is ok.

I'd say working backwards investigating from the restrictions to the engine back to the optimal component (the expensive one being the pump)

Something is blocked somewhere along the chain of fuel flow.

yeah went to gallaghers an they told me i had to book it in,so i can only get there at weekend its in next sat
but cos im in the car parts business one of my customers said take it to him he will change the filters clear the code an see how it goes.
so fingers crossed its just the fuel filter

We always use V-power as thats what it was mapped on , tried Tesco 99 and the car just felt like it was running a little bit rough compared to usual !!

Not sure if this helps, but I have been using tesco's top fuel in my bike which is quite highly tuned (spent far too much on it!) and there doesn't appear to be any difference apart from the strength of the flame coming out of the exhaust when I change up of blip, the stronger flame being that of the shell fuel. - riding it it seems to pull identically on either fuel...
