What's that button for?

Bit of a noob questions, sorry!

Since my car is an import all my user manuals are in Japanese.

There is a button behind in centre console next to the hand brake and behind the gear stick.

Its has AUTO at the top, MAN at the bottom and what looks like a rectangle type picture in the middle with a few squirts of water coming out of it!

I think it's called an intercooler switch as sold on ebay here;

Silly question no.2;
-What does it do! When should you use it
- If you select MANual how do you manually control it
- Why would you need to have it on anything other than AUTO?

It is used to throw cold water onto the intercooler.

You use it whenever you are loading up the engine on boost to cool the intercooler down. Or when you have been sat stationary at lights and the intercooler is getting heat soak.

That's correct, what it does is spray water across the front of the intercooler to help cooling even better. The bottle for it is the black funnel with the White cap on it next to your air filter

Hahahaha. I used to use mine after a country blast to melt the bugs off. The 5's use the washer bottle so it used to be a bit foamy :razz:

lol i thought u meant ya vw there lol. do you have any anti alien buttons on the german mate.

so u give the bugs a wash that kind of you lol, i went through a stage of always putting it on auto and from time to time i heard it having a spray but like i said i dnt use it anymore or ill wash off my handywork
