i was told that yes, because of the power they have i was told. I no a lad who had a impreza and 2 weeks after he bought it the gearbox blew in 1st gear because of launch control and it cost nealy 2k for a 2nd hand gearbox without fitting. Its things like that what put me off. Is that common on evo's?

Thats a scooby though, they're renowned for their gearbox issues. All i'm saying is be vigilant on purchase that you maybe forking out for some expensive repairs. Modification's aren't cheap if done properly.

Not many suffer with boxes unless running big power and then it's usually the 6 speeds that go

There's only 1 gaurentee with a evo, it will cost a fortune to run. Having said that if you know ur way round a car and are after a standard one as long as you check the basics its all good. What the guys are saying isn't that they are unreliable because jap cars arnt, as long as ur sensible with any mods you do you should be ok . As with any turbo car you get the ocasional boost leak which are straight forward when you know where to look. They are great cars. Compare the insurance with an fq model there was hardly any diff with me its only when I typed in mr the insurance companies threw a wobbley.

If ur going to a dealer just be prepaired to pay dealer prices, you can add a warrenty ro any car third party and there are some lovely examples out there in private sales

Right you need to stop with this warranty business. Because basically there worthless unless buying new. They will only ever cover certain parts not all. And only upto small value.
I know someone who bought warranty on there car then the ecu packed up within 6months. They told him it wasn't covered because it was electrical and electrics wasn't covered.
