Most importantly for me is that i can buy one from a trustable garage which will cover everything on the warranty if possible.....engine, gearbox etc.
Im looking to spend around up to 7/8k. I would hate to buy one then have to spend loads more to fix it after all i own a 106 gti now and its a massive leap up with petrol, insurance and basically everything lol and i really want one but dont want to jump in the deep end and drowned. Thanks.

TBH mate if your worried about wanting to know everything about evos & making sure nowt goes wrong with them then your after the wrong car as most people that have & still own a evo know that there's no guarantees ;)

Sounds like you're mithering about it. You're buying a 6-7 year old car and want it to be perfect. Its not going to happen. I'm not much older than you and have had these cars for almost 7 years now and i can tell you, if you're after something that doesn't have gearbox noises, problems and won't cost you a fortune to run/own then i'm afraid its back to the 106.

ive had 4 new gear boxes in me 106 and a new engine and much more ive easily spent 3/4k on it, im not completely fussed but have you seen the price of a gearbox for one of these cars just dont want to buy it then have 2 spend anything above 1k on it before ive even had the chance to drive it. Im not expecting to buy it then hammer it for years without its breaking, i just want to be able to drive to work looking good and occasionally have the odd race without it always having some problem with it.
When you's bought your evo's where they ok?

erm if you've had a new engine and 4 gearboxes in your 106 then you have obviously mistreated it. An evo is not for you ... they don't break easily but when they do there expensive.

Just because i couldnt care about a crap 106 dosnt mean im going to do the same to a much better car. I just need to no a few facts or any helpful info on them. I can afford one easy just dont want to throw money away.

i was told that yes, because of the power they have i was told. I no a lad who had a impreza and 2 weeks after he bought it the gearbox blew in 1st gear because of launch control and it cost nealy 2k for a 2nd hand gearbox without fitting. Its things like that what put me off. Is that common on evo's?
