acd problem

Hi i have recently bought an evo 7 and over the past week or so i have notice an intermitent fault with the acd lights. when i first use the car all lights stay on, after 10 min drive or when car is warmed up and i turn ignition off press the button a few times and turn ignition back on. it works (only the selected light stays on). i have searched and can not find any answers. the car has alot of service history and had fluids changed in december. hope someone can help. cheers

So, if I understand correctly, what you are saying is that all three lights stay until you switch the car off and switch it back on again.

Is that right???

yes thats right once i have driven the car, turned it off pressed the acd putton in temper then turn car back on an it works 99% of the time.and will continue to work as normal until the car is left to cool down then i get back in and all three lights will return.

I have also noticed that the fluid level is about 1" over the max could this have had an effect.

You need to see what the fault code is

Under the steering column you'll find the diagnostics port. With the ignition off loop a small piece of wire into pin numbers 1 and 4 (look very close to see the numbers)
Then turn ignition on and the acd lights will flash in a sequence. Slow flashes then fast flashes.
The slow ones are tens and the fast ones are units e.g 8 slow flashes and 2 fast ones will be code 82

i have had the car hooked upto a friends diagnostic equipment but no codes present. i know it sounds daft but i have narrowed it down to if i press the putton before turning the ignition on it works, therefore i think my comment earlier about after its warmed up is out of the window! could it be somethink as simple as a sticky switch ????

i have had the car hooked upto a friends diagnostic equipment but no codes present.

Manually flash the codes out! When my Cam Sensor died EvoScan gave no error code, flashing the code out gave error 46 (I think) which is for a faulty Cam Sensor.

Also, your friends diagnostic equipment is probably for the normal OBD protocols that most cars use, Mitsu's use their own MUT protocol, and generic diagnostic equipment will not work with it. You either need specific MUT diagnostic kit, EvoScan & cable or flash manually. Manually flashing is always accurate, as is a proper MUT diagnostic kit. EvoScan seems touch & go.

If all 3 of the lights come on there WILL be a code present. I'm willing to bet the ACD pump is not holding pressure when the oil warms and thins, which means time for a new/2nd hand pump or get yours refurbed. New one from Mitsu is £3000!! 2nd hand is about £300 IIRC. Refurb of your own is about the same as a 2nd hand pump.

You said the car has been serviced a lot and does it show any record of the ACD fluid being changed? Could they have installed the wrong fluid....

Check it on a level surface, inspect the pump, lines, reservoir cap for a tight fit and no cracks. when you turn your ignition to the on position, listen for the pump you should hear it run for about 10 seconds then stop. if it runs longer then it could be the pump beginning to fail.

the problem seems to have gone. it works every time i turn ignition on now! how strange one of lifes mysteries.
in answer to previous question there are records of the fluid having been changed during services, and by looking in the bottle it looks like ATF, which i believe is ok to use?
