yea he said tappets and check the cam gear, he dint go into much detail as it was clocking off time!!
doesnt the evo have hydraulic lash adjusters??
he said that it was either of them as its tapping/ticking on right hand side of engine, sorry im a right noob when it comes to anything technical

yeah the evo does have hydraulic adjusters and is common for them to 'tap' after a few years.

Welcome back kiddo!

Cleaning them will not help.

What you need to do is remove then from the suspect area (or all of them if you have time on your hands) and then line them up next to each other to compare them in order to ensure that they are all the same length.

Once checked, post up your findings and we can take it from there.

It is always better to dip them before popping them back in.

so jus dip. k so they wil stil be sqeezable??

That's right buddy!

If they are all the same length then they should be fine, if there is the odd one or two that are shorter, they are the ones that need replacing.

Apply pressure to all of them, one at a time and see if they depress and raise back up properly.

Let us know how you get on BEFORE you pop them back in.
