I learned the power plant side, swapping a few key components and up the boost. But now that i actually own a evo 8, i want to genuinely take care of it and make it as reliable as possible. My power goal is 400/400..not beating the snot out of it.. But driving the car every day like i used to drive my S2000! Treating it with respect. The Wisdom is learning what not to do...things to stay away from..i.e. Cheap parts on a expensive buuld...smh. Like is removing the balance shaft really beneficial? Is a evo 8mr head gasket better than a 9mr?
And all input is welcome..i just wanted the serious street /track racers to chime in, because they have the real , first ✋ experience when cars break down and spend the time repairing them.
Thank you all in advance
Cheers

Some parts are expensive but the quality is crap..it depends what you buying. In my experience removing balance shaft is beneficial and I drove the car with and without and there is no difference. Usually balance shaft equipped to engines with over 2.0l like 2.2 onwards don't know why they put it on 2.0L engine :D Regarding the head gasket not sure..I've used Evo9 one mine, pretty much everything on my engine is from Evo9 and is 5 layers.
p.s Removing balance shafts with belt will eliminate it from taking the T.belt and cause damage in the event of failure, usually balance shaft belt brakes first.

Thanks

Great information! I plan on refreshing the engine since the transmission is out already and i can get to the main rear seal..i wasnt sure but now i feel better knowing evo 9 parts i.e. head gasket etc fit well. If you dont mind me asking whats you setup on your evolution?

They put the balance shaft on the engine to remove harmonic shaking
but on a rally car it's irrelevant.
Customers buying a road car do not want it to shake.
