Happy new year guys and girls.
Ok firstly I ran an Impreza for years and although driven an Evo5 not sure what to look at with regards to buying. I'm going to be sourcing a 5 later this year but picking up a 4 with my brother tomorrow as his new toy. Any pointers to buying a 4? Cheers

The 4 suffers with crank walk so listen carefully for any knocks from engine. Make sure ayc is doing its thing and check for rust as they are getting on now apart from that look for what you norm do on a car

Crank walk? Would that effect the difference at some point, not an term I'd heard of with the Impreza. Have to say though the 98 Impreza was nothing compared to the evo 5 I drove, the interior is nicer, body is a better looking car. Can't wait to get one now. Sadly my brother has beat me to it. Many thanks

Crank walk affects the 4 only the 5 will be fine. Its exsessive thrust side to side on the crank which will destroy the crank and cradle which is the block so new engine job. May be lucky however hope he is.

Many thanks, after having a mechanic check the car over he seems to have got lucky, evo 4 with an evo 6 engine solid car all work undertaken and only a small scrape and splitter needing resprayed. Can anyone tell me where the ancillary is on these cars, I'm sure I'd read the one with a hat is better. I know it was on the front righthand strut mount on a scoobie but cannot see anything similar in the evo. Cany wait to get a 5 now.
