i bought the car with ayc fault, which i knew about, so sent pump away for recon, was alot more then i thought it would be, plus had to get new pipes, got it back fitted to car topped up fluid, and fluid was coming out all over the floor,
so took off and found a solenoid had snapped, must of happened in delivery, anyway got newone replaced with no troubles,
put it all back together topped up, left car in garage as waiting to bleed system, and found a pool of oil under car, has a slow leak from one of the other solenoids, its not broke, so im guessing its the o ring, but lost hart and interest in it now,

I'm sure everyone here knows what you're feeling. When your car isn't going right, or has on-going problems you just fall out of love with it and wonder if torching it on the driveway wouldn't be the best thing to do. I assume you have an VIII, so going RS isn't even an option as you still need the pump for the ACD. If you can afford it, I'd just leave it with a specialist and tell them to call you when it's working. It tends to be more straightforward to get a garage to supply their own parts etc.

yeah think im just gonna drop off to a garage and let them sort it, never really like going to garages after i was ripped a few years back, found out i was charged for parts that wasn't even fitted etc. but i'll give it a week, i'll hopefully get my act together and sort it.

i dont really see how the solenoid can be leaking, its a recon unit, not even driven the car yet as still on axle stands. im so tempted to put it on ebay as is at mo. anyone want it lol

My ayc needs repairing or replacing I have 3 lights stuck on but it still drives great, how would I notice a difference (it's been like this since I bought it) so can't wait to get the new one fitted just wonder if I will actually notice a difference?

As far as i understand the ayc will only cut in if you have all 4 wheels break traction / slide so you will only feel the difference if you are driving on the limit of traction . My ayc pump also needs to be refurbished and will be getting apt to fit and bleed the new one .

AYC cuts in well before then. You will only notice it when pushing very hard, but overall it does work before you know it is working and if yours isn't working you really should fix it. It improves traction noticeably.

The ayc sends power to where its needed by monitering steering sensors and i think its throttle position or some other load sensor. You have little clutch packs in the rear diff and transfer box which allows more to be sent to others. Its all controlled by the ayc pump with the solenoids. I only know because im having a lot of problems with mine. A specialist who i spoke to said id be better off buying one from abroad where its less damp so there would be less corrosion, i found one in greece and bought it for £150! As he listed it on ebay as a pump differential of evo 9.......i was well made up.....untill i found i still need a transfer box and possibly gearbox!!

My ayc packed up so I refurbed it fitted it and bled and still all 3 lights were on, and that's how it's remained Tbh, I'll sort it at some point but until then I'll just deal with the livelyness

Without the AYC/ACD system working the diffs are in a constantly "open" state, in otherwords the two output shafts (front and rear for the centre diff, left and right for the rear diff) will always be under the same Torque. So if there is a reduction in traction that opposes this torque the wheel can spin, this can happen going round a corner as traction on the inside wheels is reduced, causing wheel spin and reducing overall grip. What the Active Yaw Control does is use a couple of clutches (left and right) to send more Torque to the outside rear wheel which has more traction resulting in greater cornering grip, all based on inputs from accelerometers, steering angle, throttle position and handbrake (I think speed too but I'm not sure). The Active Centre Diff is a little different in that rather than "activating" when cornering it "deactivates" so in a straight line the front and rear wheels are locked together (only after about 20-30 MPH I think) so if the rear or front wheels loose traction under acceleration they wont just spin all the power away. However when the wheel is turned the centre diff is "opened" allowing the front and rears to spin at different speeds. How long it takes to open is dependent on your ACD setting. In Tarmac it is instant, Gravel a short delay and Snow a little longer still, this is to allow for traction under power on slippy surfaces.
The car will work fine with the AYC/ACD not working but is much better with it working, especially in the wet

right well ive totally given up on this car now, after getting recon pump back with broken solenoid, putting new one in and it was still leaking, i then bought a bleed box with new o rings, changed the o ring and it still seems to have a slight leak, a slow weep, so has to be something wrong with the solenoid,:mad:

Chris,

You are looking at 2 poss causes;

The solenoid has a hairline crack in it, generally where the retainer sits in the grooves of the solenoid. Get a magnifying glass and have a close look.

OR the housing where the solenoid goes is not creating a seal against the o ring - this can be fixed by a turn of PTFE tape around the recess where the o ring sits, this will bring it out a bit and hopefully create a seal.

Let me know if you need any more advice

p.s. where did you send for refurb?

cheers

Dan

Well I found the problem, the solenoid is cracked, so looks like I'll have to spend out on a new one,
