Hi all,
I've been looking at buying an Evo for a while. Most web reviews and videos rave about Evos. I need an SST gearboxed model, an X. I've come to find out all there is to know :D (wheels , tyres , brakes , re-maps etc....)
(I won't mention my faithfull Scooby that's to be retired  )

Cheers :)

I'd especially like to hear some thoughts on using an Evo X SST flappy box...

Welcome to EO. Plenty of info. here-just ask!

I drive a 2011 FQ Evo X 300 SST. It's still under warranty and thus unmodified.
I find the SST 'box to be impressive. It takes some getting used to and from cold it is rather slow in changing gear but this can largely be over-ridden by 'manual' changing . it soon warms up,though, and is very smooth in 'auto' mode.
The general opinion is to let the car warm up for a while before driving off from cold.
Like most auto 'boxes I have driven, they like a bit of full performance driving and seem to be much more responsive the next day. (In my old Jensen SP, this was recommended on a weekly basis).

I'd get one (or a 330) but be critical of those you see, as you would be for any vehicle.
Good luck!
N.

Hi and thanks for the tips.
Do you throttle off to change gear manually, or simple move the paddle ? Or is there the option to throttle off while cruising around and use full throttle gearchanges when on a trackday, say..?
I want one as a general run-around, but also want to wring its neck on several track days per year :D

In manual mode,to change up, pull the gear lever toward '+' and maintain throttle opening. To change down and accelerate, push lever forward (toward '-') and release and pull back to go up a gear. (The gear lever only moves one position either way and returns to the 'middle' position). You can do all this by using the paddles- left for down and right for up a gear whilst you hang on to the steering wheel!
You can select Normal,Sport or Super-Sport for daily use. In the latter two settings , things get quite quick so are optimal for track use. There is, of course, the Launch Mode but you can read about that elsewhere on this site!

Wow....!!! That sounds perfect :) Just like a motorcycle gearlever but with no closing of the throttle. I suspected this, but you're the first person to confirm this, thanks.
Do you know what would happen, if say you were in manual mode and had to do an emergency stop, or suddenly had to slow to a walking pace.....would it stay in the selected gear and either shudder or stall ? Or does the computer have the 'smarts' to deal with this ?

Does anyone else want to wade in on this subject? It's getting 'off topic' for the 'Hello' thread!
I'll PM Cheekymonkey. Perhaps we can open a topic in a more appropriate thread.

Hi.
Thanks for the SST info in the PM.
Yep, l guess SST is a bit more than hello :D
A thread detailing SST usage and operation would be really great
