Long story short, I took her for a spin and the engine cut out mid rev range. I bought her to a stop and she turns over but won't start.
But there is a history that might help. Someone was poking around under the bonnet a few days ago and then took the plug out of cylinder 3 and earthed it against the rocker cover to check the spark. They said it was a weak spark but also noticed that there was an arc going from the coil back on cylinder 2 to the rocker cover. He said it would need changing.
Anyway, because of the nature of the stop I naturally checked the cam belt. Was ok. But I was curious about the coil packs so earthed out number 3 cylinder again but when trying to start there was no spark and no arcing...
Just a replacement coil pack?
Would the car start anyway on 2 cylinders (running poorly)?
Or has I lost something further down the ignition line?
All other electricals are fine.
