So the price for this was £1750.

First few problems I noticed was a few rotten pipes in the engine bay and bad tracking to the left when driving. Also the engine never gets to temp (Found out no thermostat??)

Because the engine isn't getting up to temperature the pistons are not expanding properly so I'm burning a bit of light oil. But haven't spotted anything else yet.

So on the list so far...

• Cambelt change
• Fit thermostat
• Replace damaged engine hoses
• Sort tracking
• Service brakes
• Secure battery

Thermostat fitment

Ok so today I fitted my Thermostat and have a number of pictures and a guide for anyone who will need it done.


Tools
Pos screwdriver
12mm socket/spanner
Pliers


Step 1

Buy your new Thermostat, I opted for the £15 Euro car parts option.

Both parts coloured red and yellow (circled in picture) are optional to remove but will generally give you easier access to the parts in question. I wanted as clear a working area as possible so removed the top cooling pipe completely. The cooling pipe removal requires a pair of pliers for the pipe and a 12mm socket for the part circled red. The same can be done to the part circled yellow also using a 12mm socket.

You're aiming to get at the area arrowed in green.





Step 2

Access in this picture is again arrowed green. You will also need to remove the air box. Both top clips arrowed red and the jubilee clip at the end of the hose. Don't forget to disconnect the MAF sensor.





Step 3

Access is again in green. There are two 12mm bolts to remove to get the side off the thermostat housing. It might be easier to also remove the boost pipe going to the inlet manifold. This can be seen on this picture at the middle right, its the pipe with the bit of yellow on it (my picture only). Its a jubilee clip and should pull free.



Fit the Thermostat flange side towards nearside of car. Is you have one, replace the gasket or prep the contact faces with sandpaper and apply gasket seal.
