I'd also be looking at this !
The bracket that holds the cables to the box has rubber bushes and are prone to braking off. Just weld them up :)

It's a bracket that both cables are clipped into. Bracket is bolted to top of gearbox towards the rear. next to the selector :)

Before this exploration for the bracket begins. If it was loose or damaged and not holding the cables. Then the gearstick would wobble and not be able to select any gear!!

It selects every gear just doesn't engage so this is looking more like the clutch is fooked

Well no not really cos the clutch would have to operate in order to select a gear. If the clutch ain't separating then you won't be able to select a gear without it just grinding so as you say you are able to select gears with the engine running then the clutch has to be working.

I'm still sticking to the bracket being the issue :)

If there is play in the bracket it would cause it to find a gear sometimes and not others, as there would be excess play. Get hold of the cables and give them a tug and if what bolts it's to the box moves then you need to get to work

If the cables are flopping about all the gears feel wrong that's why I asked if it all looked like and felt like it was a selecting, all the gear stick felt all wrong and neutral was in the wrong place when mine went.you could just tell it wasn't right.
