Hi guys, I've been offered a TD05HR-16G6-10.5T and I believe my evo comes with a TD05HR-16G6-9T. I would like to know the pros and cons of doing this.

I believe I can fit it easily because I've changed my OEM intake for an short one as the ones on Evo8/9 and relocating the battery. But I'm already running 1.3bar and I think top boost for my car (stock) is about 1.4/1.5bar?

What things else would I have to change to get the best out of this turbo?

Straight swap...

Your max boost is up to you and what your wanting to pay when it goes BANG
The 4 engine as std is good for 1.3 but not much more despite others running 1.5bar. And if you've not had it mapped your pushing the limits aswell.

The bigger 10.5 is capable of flowing more exhaust gases and so produce more boost

Thanks for the quick answer. So if I just do the straight swap and do anything else (still run 1.3bar) it would be ok? Because it was offered to me mainly as a replacement to my current turbo when it starts to fail.

How much boost could I run with this 10.5T turbo? What other things would I also have to look before blowing something? Stage 1 upgrades?

it has been 1.5 and over for near 5 years now.. standard evo4 engine..

The turbo your running will take it. And as always there are exceptions with engines. Just bare in mind it's a slight weaker design than the later models and it's 14 yrs old lol

yes I know all the stuff and scare mongering stories about weak this weak that crank walk etc etc etc...

but to be fair its stil going strong (touch wood)

and my car is 97 so you do the math - not 14 year old lol

Got nothing against people running more than recommended. You have to push the boundaries to discover the limits. I'm glad your proving the sceptics wrong...
