I have a 1999 evo 6 GSR and has quite a big spec list when I bought it, everything that has been listed and I can physically see it has had on it.

Spec list is:

Wiesco forged pistons
Eagle rods with ARP bolts
ARP head stud kit
Balanced and polished crank
HKS head gasket
TD05 16G 10.5
1.5 bar actuator
Forge recirc valve
Eightspeed turbo elbow
3" mongoose down pipe
3" decat
Nur spec R
Walbro 255
IBC gizmo boost controller
Apexi FC power commander
HKS induction kit

Only things I can't see are obviously the rods and pistons, but would there be any need to use ARP head stud kit if it didn't have rods or pistons?

I know it has the head stud kit as I put the 3mm lash adjusters in and could see the stud kit.

If I look into it further and find out it is forged for certain what would be the next best step to take?

Thanks, Reece.

Without proof that the engine IS forged then it's guna be a risk. Easiest way is to either whip off the sump or bore scope it I'd imagine.

Other than that to utilise what you have is going to be a good remap. Your going to need bigger injectors too. If you want more power the next thing holding you up will be the turbo or cams I'd guess.

Another thing you havn't is, is your clutch etc uprated? If not a standard clutch won't last long at the power you should be able to run at. Anther good thing to think about is chassis mods such as better brakes and some good coilovers.

It's had an excedy organic clutch put in not long ago and is lowered on tein springs, it will have a few polybushes soon aswell.

Would there really be any need to put ARP head stud kit in if its not been forged? It's had everything else done and has had money spent on it so I'm hoping its had the full works.

With regards to cams and turbo what would be the best bet if it is forged?

Depends on the power you want.

It's been well proven to decide a power and try and hit that, do you want 400 450 500 etc etc

RS diff will be needed too beyond certain BHP just depends how much power your after.

I'd be more than happy with 450bhp, maybe less as long as the power delivery and the way it drives is spot on.

Well like Tom has mentioned its not worth the risk of pushing that power without confirming your spec. I'd have the sump taken off and inspect. Like you say there wouldn't be much point using the stud kit if it was standard.

But if you push for that power you'll just end up with a whole on the block, new engine needed, then a forged build.

Shouldnt be hard at all to get it to 450, just do some research on best turbo etc new manifold too

Personally I would have thought if it had the ARP's etc then yes it would be forged but who knows.....

As for cams and turbo, if your staying just as a street car I'd say probably a set of kelford 264 cams and an 80 series turbo from a 9 would be good for about 450/450. I'm sure a tuner will be able to point you in the right direction though.

It all depends on your use for the car and your budget to be honest.

drop the sump plug out and get an inspection camera in there, arp come standard on the rods

Some tunerd used to change the rod bolts as an upgrade from standard bolts.
As you say with the sump of he should be able to see if the rods are upgraded or not.

Sounds like some good info, budget is sort of open to anything but the car is only used as a weekend toy so would be a road car. Ill whip the sump off on the next oil change and see what is what :)

Thanks for the info!

Open ended budget??

As said above rs diff and handing mods would be a good way to go, without lack of proof of the build it will always be a risk. Turbo technics s205b turbo would be a nice upgrade. Easily make 450bhp as the turbo is good for a lot more :D

Sounds like you have some good skills too, hope you find forged internals in it :)

I should re word it, I don't mind spending money on it lol first turbo car I've owned so still getting used to what turbos are good for what etc...

Ill have a look into that turbo, I've heard the name being thrown about before, also heard of GT3071? Any good?

Sounds like you have some good skills too, hope you find forged internals in it :)

By trade I'm a mechanic but its just a mechanic, I don't work with fitting upgrades etc.. So any upgrade I do fit is through other people's suggestions/usage :)

I sure do aswell!
