which evo? recomend me a evo ?

silly question i know but..im selling my mr2,im undecided weather to get a skyline or a evo.. my budget is 5-8k, some friends have said evos are good however i dont know a thing on them,i dont want a 4 wheel drive as tax is high but want a turbo so which model? evo 6? what bhp are they?

what do you mean by "dont want a 4wd"?all evos are 4wd, and you can get them in all flavors 300hp and up, much quicker than the mr2

what i mean is the 4x4 is the skyline r34 gtr is a 4x4 which costs £400 a year in tax,the r34gtt is a rear wheel drive £180 tax.. so i have found out the evo 7 onwards are £400 to tax,the 6 & lower are £180..i have bought a evo 6 now,collecting later;)

Yer but its the emissions still, remember the gtr is twin turbo 2.6 where the gtst is a single turbo = less emissions not on how many wheels are driving the car! Plus i would dought you would get an evo 6 for that kind of budget ! Same for skyline too. GTR's start around £6k and thats tbh for a dog of a gtr. Go for a evo 4 :D the skyline sound is amazing but to find a decent gtst is hard to come by nowadays and you can get a decent older gen evo ( 1,2,3,4 ) mabey 5 for that kind of money. Trust me im selling my MX5 and i looked at skylines but evos are a better package for the money by FAR!

i have two mates with skylines,both r34,the gtr v-spec are around £20,000+,they are 400 bhp,belive me i know as ive been out in it,4 wheel drive,twin turbo £400 tax!,the gtt are rear wheel drive,single turbo,in low tax bracket,280bhp..this was the model i was looking for,however theirs not alot under £8000,trust me its a buyers market,if you keep your nerve & know how to haggle you can get a evo6 under £6000 !! i know because ive just paid a tad over £5500!

yr last MR2 has gave u lots FR driving feeling,THATS ENOUGH,get a EVO 4/5/6 all within yr budget.not quite impressing about GT-R really.

the tax is cheaper on the 2 cars due to the age i think it is before april 2001 the highest tax you will pay is £180 and after that it is now going to be £440

Close but no Cigar.

Mine is a 2002 7 FQ300 with no Co2 based tax (£180 ish) as it has no Co2 on the log book. After a bit of chat with others, it seems that most FQ300's upto September 02 were registered without Co2 and most after have Co2. But, before anyone starts flaming, there are a few exception to this rule.

What's more, these are all "UK" cars (for def on "UK" read official Mitsu not grey/private import) but this rule of thumb does not work for "imports". The taxation (whether Co2 on log book or not) was down to the SVA test used when the car arrived off the ferry. Some, even late model 8's, are known to have been tested/registered without Co2 and have lower VED.

Now that's not the end of the story either. Some older models (read 4/5/6) are still Co2 based (ie over £400) as its the date 1st reg in the UK not date 1st reg in Japan. Also, DVLA are getting wise to the SVA loophole and more than 1 owner has had a letter from them saying that despite SVA they now have to pay £400 plus, no appeal!!!

So, to sum up, you can get an older 4/5/6 that came off the boat yesterday that will have £400 plus VED and you can have a late model 8 with £185 VED. The trick is to ask who you're buying from what they pay and avoid the £400 ones. ;)

My 2002 imported evo vii is plg, and my tax is £180 per year. if the extra £200 is too much for you then just go for an imported 6/7/8 pre 2003 ;)

Can you point me in the direction of an R34 GTR for £5-8k please. Even if its a dog of a car ill buy it for that price straight away. Given that you cant buy a half decent R33 GTR for that amount and thats taken into account the ar5e dropping out of the price of cars.

As for which to go for.......
it all depends what you want to use it for and what your driving style is.
When were talking about group 20+ performance Jap cars i dont think the price of tax should really enter the equation. However if it does and this is causing concern then perhaps its better to stick with an MR2 . Cheaper running costs to compensate the tax rise.
You can convert a GTR to RWD with not too much to do. Although if your going to do that its cheaper to buy a cheap GTS-T and an RB26DETT and do the transplant.
Meaning you have the GTR without paying the GTR badge tax.

Personally, i would go for a E5 now that prices have dropped, you should be able to pick up a half decent E5 for that price bracket easily enough.
Or even a not so good E6.
