Japspeed exhaust manifolds

Alright guys,

Ive got a japspeed manifold on my tommi and am just wondering if it really offers any gains over the standard manifold? I had an issue with it blowing out the gasket on the turbo flange, replaced that to find it also blowing out of a pin hole where it wasnt welded properly on flange too.

I know I can weld the pin hole and will in due course but i am also temped to return to the stock manifold and reintroduce the sas system, all be it after getting hold of the banjo bolts and hose.

Also, will it make much difference to the current map?

Every little makes a difference. Get AFR's checked after the change just to make sure.
They are £100 a go and last 6-12 months. You get what you pay for. So it's good you didn't pay lol

Lol! Whats the best way of checking the ATF? Will a Lambda reading on a gas analyser do?

Take it off mate stock manifold is fine, porting a stock will give better gains that a cheap manifold like that lol..

Next jobs sorted then, I'll be popping and banging in no time, will have to bling up the stock manifold with a shiny heat sheild tho

Spec R one on my standard manifold :razz: get it done!

The japspeed ones are pretty poor, from what I've seen and read a bit too thin compared to the more expensive versions.

EVO 4, 5, 6 : Alloy Manifold Heat Shield - Mitsubishi Evo 4, 5, 6

Pretty sure he trades on here too, mine was already on the car. Uses the original holes on the standard manifold.

You'll probably be chasing that pin hole till the day you sell the car or you give up and bin it.

John@sva does have some ported standard manifolds if your looking for better quality

Luckily the previous owner left me with the origional and most of the sas pipe work so as soon as I get chance ill be sending it down the engineering shop and getting it ported!

In the mean time im glad im handy with a welder, good fortune that the hole is right at the front too so easy access!

I'm having my standard one put back on very soon having experienced the same crack and weld syndrome on a cheap after market one!

It looks like you have the original manifold anyway and SAS bolts but if you want a non-SAS one let me know as I have one sitting around.

I purchased it from Japspeed but then subsequently realised its the non-SAS manifold so went out and bought another one, polished and ported - ready to go so hopefully mine wont blow now either!
