Just got my evo x gsr sst fq300 on Saturday and i'm loving it!!!

Only problem now is I've now gotta fill up and I don't know where to get my 98 RON from or in deed if I actually need 98 RON?

I normally use Sainsburys, Co-op Asda or occasionally Esso depending where I am when I need to fill up

Shell, Tesco and BP all do 98 or above.

Its best to use the higher octane fuels but if the cars standard 95RON will be fine

That's right !

All super unleaded however branded are only 97ron. The only place that sells 99ron is tesco and shell

You should be using either of these cos your car says 98 or higher :)

I shall elaborate on my post, some people cant get access to high octane fuels, if thats the case, run the 95RON if you can get acess to higher octane fuels, as mentioned, Optimax or Tesco99 then those are best to run.

Thanks for the replies and links.
I take it that if I just use 95RON I will loose performance, what about MPG? or is it about the same?

Thorney no longer endorses Tesco 99

Thorney were sponsored by Tesco at the time of making those claims. Shell were also told to withdraw claims from their adverts about performance etc with V-Power by the Advertising Standards Authority.

When putting your foot down in an evo you probably will get better MPG on 98+ than 95 as the engine is more efficient, but I doubt "combined driving" would see much overall gain. It's mainly an issue with keeping your engine safe rather than anything else, even performance.

The problem with the "in-built protection" is that it is reactive, not proactive. It's like saying "if I get punched in the face by Mike Tyson it's ok as I'll just move 10 feet away". That's all well and good, but you've still been punched in the face by Mike Tyson :D

Would the standard map in the US be different to ours, bases on the ron being alot lower?

As said, they do their octane numbers like they do their dyno numbers...just different :) our petrol is pretty much the same. The mapping isn't going to affect how the car protects itself from lower octane fuels though, but as long as your map is matched to your fuel (even if that is 95) then the mapper can make sure the car's inbuilt protection never has to kick in and the car runs sweet with no issues.

To add Aidy, not X but ive mapped a few 8/9s where i have mapped on 95RON, and still able to push boost and ignition timing over stock, obviously not as much as if i was using 99RON, my reasoning why i say 95RON should be ok.
