Evo 4 transfer box

Which shaft do you pull out to remove the transfer box from the gearbox? And can you do it without the aid of a special tool? Cheers

You need to remove the cross shaft on the nearside of the gearbox you will need a sliding hammer with a M8x1.25 bolt on

Agreed,
do not attempt it any other way regardless of what you are told.

Be sure to put it back in the same way you take it out and not back to front if you get what I mean.

If it is put in the opposite way round then you will be in for some trouble.

Thanks for the info. I managed it. Now another one? How do you split the gearbox from the engine?? The fork seams to be jamming and not letting the box separate from the engine on the spline. Cheers

I'm gueesing you haven't removed the thrust/release bearing?


there is a access hole at the bottom to try and release it off the cover plate.


(worst case is you'll need to unbolt the clutch cover plate from the fly to get the box off)

Yes they do you need to pull the clutch fork toward the engine as you put a screwdriver between the bearing and the retainer clip then twist the driver and it should release

I remember the first time I did it on mine with the old original clutch in.......lots of cursing (lots) and ended up with a mashed up bearing retaining clip thingy..........tis easy.......NOW
