First Post! Hi to all

Hi,
Just though I'd pop my head above the parapet and say hello,

I've always liked the Evo but never quite thought I'd own one, but yet here I find myself scouring ebay piston heads auto trader and the likes justifiying why I should take the plunge.
My wife I'm sure thinks it's an early mid life crisis, But I on the other hand prefer to think of it as preparing for an early mid life crisis.

Normally when looking for cars I just end up going with the flow, for example 18 months ago I went to buy an Evo and ended up driving a pickup truck for the last year and a half.

So this time I've sold my truck first and I'm going to take my time and find a nice Evo.

I'm looking for an Evo X,
Maybe some of you can give me some pointers, what to look for, desirable model, good insurance brokers ect.
If I get one I'm planing on keeping it for a while, I'm lucky if I cover 4500 miles in a year because I'm only home for 6 month a year and It would be a second car, and my wife would only be driving it if needs must.

So any input would be grateful

Ill keep my eye out on the www for you mate. Does it need to be a X ?? I know of a show car Evo 9 in red that's just come up for sale. O and don't buy a cat that no one knows lots of nails out there

First thing to consider is SST (Automatic) or Manual with X, most Evo X are SST some website even list them as manuals, so check for paddles on the steering column to be sure.

Insurance wise try Pace Ward.

Also as Geof has said why not consider an IX?

I'm thinking that if the X runs as long as the 7 8 and 9, it will be a great car to keep for years to come, plus I can't think of a meaner looking car from the front than the X, So I'm pretty sold on the X.
As for SST or manual, I don't have a clue, I'm sure there are loads of pros and cons,
if you were to list 2 pros and 2 cons for the SST over the manual what would they be??

If I had to sum it up, then when you're "pushing on" it's great, it's when you're just pootling about that it can be annoying from time to time, but I have to admit it is good just leaving it in auto when driving around, then switching to manual when you want to unleash the car's abilities. The main factor is how much you want to mod it. If you want over 400 BHP then go for a manual. If you're not that fussed about power then the SST is better, faster, smoother.

I've got a 10 plate SST and love it.
As for pros and cons, I haven't had or driven a manual X but as for the SST.
I love it in the "manual" mode either in Sport or S.Sport, great during acceleration.
Not a big fan of it in Normal Auto mode, find the box frustrating.
Don't know what plans you have regards upgrades but something to consider;
I've had mine upgraded from a 300 to 368 with keeping the torque low as that's all the clutch can handle in its current state, upgrading the clutch isn't cheap.

But I love mine, Hope this helps abit.

Does yours still drive ok in auto modes? When you increase the torque further the auto modes stop being able to change without slipping and you have to keep it in super-sport manual.

Yeh it's fine mate, like you posted, I too have it in Auto/Normal mode for tootling about without noticing any probs since upgrading.
I usually can't resist knocking it in manual/sport though lol

had my evox sst just over 2 week love it well worth the money for me cant wait to do some upgrade and come to some MEETS with guys from here to get some info on what to do and how to get more out of it
