Hi guys,

New to the forum. At this moment in time I don't own a Mitsubishi Evo but I'm in the process of looking for one.
I'm on the look out for a red Evo vii or viii in stock condition as I like to do all work/ modifications on my cars myself. ( top and bottom of it is so I know its done right.)

This car will be my daily driver so I just wanted to ask a quick question if you guys don't mind

What are the common problems to look out for when purchasing a Evo 7 or 8 ( if any)
So what should I be looking out for?

Alittle info about my self.
I'm 26 and from Newcastle, I've had a passion for cars from the age of 15.
I currently drive a Toyota supra single turbo (weekend car).
I own my own window tinting bussiness and have done for the last 4 years but been in the trade for 10 years.

My past cars have been : corsa b 2.0ltr turbo , Nissan navara d22 , citron saxo VTS, Renault scenic 2.0ltr (the family car),ford transit connect ( work horse) and Toyota supra 3.0ltr single turbo.

Pick a evo that suits you best and the one you feel is right for you and look at as many as you can!

If i was looking for a VII or a VIII i would go for a french blue VII or a Red VIII.

Thanks mate, yeah I'm really wanting a red one or I could be pushed into black lol. All my cars are and have been black but my wife wants me to have a brake from the norm so red is my next choice

Should get a mint Evo 8 for that mate. Don't just buy one without letting know what one your thinking of as we may know the car and owner

Be aware of rust. Buy the cleanest best looked after car you can find for your money

Yeah that was my plan mate, always a bonus to know the backround of the car

The VII and VIII are both quite reliable, the only common issue you need to look out for is around the AYC/ACD system (the trick diffs). The dashboard will have three lights, one for gravel, tarmac and snow. All three need to come on when the car starts, then in a second or two they will go out with the current mode left on (probably tarmac). There is an ACD button that will switch through the three modes, make sure the car drives ok for a few minutes in all modes. If all three lights come together after a few minutes of driving then the diff pump has probably failed. Don't listen to any BS about it just needing serviced or bled.

Other than that just look for the things you'd look for in any other car...no wild noises, it does full lock and so on.

Thanks for that mate, that's fantastic info as I was looking at one on eBay and when I read the distribution it said " the only problem is after a few minutes all three lights for the settings stay lit but car drives perfect!"

So that's obviously the problem that car had! Thanks dude

It's a common problem for all Evos the pumps corrode so just be careful and make sure all 3 lights come on then leave 1 on while driving. Look at the lights while driving too cos then can just come on once the car starts moving

"Drives perfect" - that's what they all say lol With the three lights on the diffs are running in open mode, and it will drive far from perfect when pushed hard. They've gone to Mitsubishi who have quoted them £2,500 to fix and they've thought "screw that, I'll just sell it".
