deep puddle advise please

hi all..

have a bit of an issue, have taking in some water, so my car wont go, it will start and idle ok, but when i try to rev it, it will get to 2.5k-3k and then bounces off as if its on the limiter, then almost kills itself, and back to idle,

any advice would be much appreciated. or what may be up with it.

Check spark plugs/coil packs.

well try drying them out cleaning them and see if it helps firstly

As above take the coil packs off and dry them out. Or if you have a friend with a evo swap them over and see if sorts the problem.

I had this a few times in my old type r as my air filter was at the bottom of my bumper, car would not engage vtec it sorted its self out though each time I jus revved high for a minute or so, just lower gears and it worked the water out luckily, spark plugs coil packs ect won't help if I'm honest the prob it water in the system it needs to be gone ASAP how far have you drive since?

Have you hydro locked the engine if so remove spark plugs unplug the coil pack and crank her over see if any water shoots out the plug holes

went back to the car this morning fired up, let it warm up, drove ok with slight miss fire, took plugs out were bone dry, took air filter off blew it out and dryed it, mate plugged it in checked everything, now its drives great again! close call very lucky,

another question, why is the air filter in such a stupid place? or is that a stupid question? and can it be relocated? or know of anyone that has done so?

I take it you have the APS cold air intake that takes the air from the front bumper scoop below head light ?
I had one of these kits and sold it for the same reason, puddles are a big no no.
You'll probably find the airflow meter which is between air filter and turbo had a tiny amount of water in it which just causes havoc. Just remove it and give it a careful wipe and gentle blow with a airline and you'd be up and running again

Engine would be seized solid if it had hydro locked. Be full of water and wouldn't run..

They do out the air filter in the wrong place for the weather we get here.. Not sure my cold air "water" feed is much better seems to get water in it lol.

Like I said very similar to my type r, scary moment when it happens but passes quick best advice is not to turn it off it worked out for you though so it's ok

yeah i think so b6lee, it has a big black bottle which says aps so i presume so, in the near future i defiantly want to change it.

Yea that's the one. Under that you have a red hardpipe going down with KnN filter on the end.
It's a good kit and good idea but not really ment for British winters lol

what sort of money is it worth second hand, and also what is a good replacement?
i agree defiantly not ment for our 11month winters.......

Can't remember what I sold mine for. Was a few years ago now.
Think £80 ish

As for replacement. Hks, KnN, apexi etc are all good.
