importing a car.

hi peeps, just wondering if anyone has imported a car. if so what are the good and bad things to look out for, is it worth doing it or will it be costly in the long way! also are the cars in pretty good condition or can you fall into a trap and get stung. any help would be great on the subject.

I have never imported a car but I don't think I ever would, there are a lot of specialist importers who will bring the car over (and it doesn't stop there) they will also convert the car to uk spec, remove limiters, convert to mph, undersell the car ect. There is a lot more than just getting it on a boat is all I'm tryin to say. What model you looking at getting maybe someone here knows of a nice one

with all the hasle and the way the currency/exchange rate is wouldnt it be just as easy to get a well sorted car over here??

hi,thanks for your reply. i aint to sure what model i want, 8 or 9 fq,mr if i can.. but dont want to spend more then 8 grand...if i can get away with it...

there are many very clean examples for 8k even lightly modded if thats what your after. personally like i say i wouldnt import one i would just buy a uk car and enjoy also the model you are looking for is uk market only so you would have to buy another model anyways

yh the fq is a gsr that is imported, played around with by ralliart with some subtle changes and sold in uk

the mr over the fq is lighter due to alloy roof and pillars, a couple of design differences like black spoiler instead of colour coded, ridges in roof, wheels, turbo hoside bigger, more agressive cams, better fuel pump, and a map.

All depends on which one you start with, lots of people have lots of views on this, I have the fq300 and most say safely without internals 380 but if you start with a 340 for example 400 isn't unreasonable at about 1.8 bar much past that its a gamble some survive and some don't. i think i would be happy with 380,would you know by any chance at what sort of milage are you meant to change the cambelts..

45k is cambelt change time and also balance shaft belt they get done together. Yh unless your going to track the car 380 is more than enough for the roads IMO how soon you looking to be in an Evo pal

very soon if all goes well, if not after xmas.. if one comes up for the right money and good spec and condition with fsh i will have to forget xmas and buy it.lol anyway i got a deal with the misses, i get the car and ill take her to bora bora next year :whistling: ..i have seen a evo9 gt, whats the diff with them.
as this is gonna be my first eve, i just want to make sure its the one i want. i did have a impreza about a year ago and got bored with it very quick.. :hm:

Don't mind power, just don't want it to break down every five mins..lol it will be in the garage for the winter and brought out for sunny days, just a toy really. So it don't really matter if I don't get one until summer...lots of time to find the perfect car.. :razz:

Go for a Uk car or one that is already here. It will take approx. 6-8 weeks for a car to come over. If there are any mods (diff. etc.),it will not pass the esva, sva test and therefore you will not be able to register it. Exchange rate is crap at the moment and has been for some time now!

By the time exchanged money, paid taxes and sva test, registration it will cost you approx. 2k more than what you could pay for one already here.
