Hi guys. My evo has 160,000kms in the odo and I was using Castrol 5w 50 synthetic. I was reading threads about the best oil/measure in this forum and I decided to change for the Castrol 10w 40 synthetic. Hope this doesnt bring me any problems. But the problem I really have is that my oil turns really black and I dont even drive it 5k in 6 months. Last week I changed oil and drove the car about 50km in the weekend and when I checked it this morning it was already a bit black. Why can this be and how can I fix it? I've been told to use that engine flusher. That using it once wont be that bad. But also in this forum I read that that wasnt good. My car has been running rich for about a year (I make about 5.5km/lt) so it smokes a bit heavily when I floor it. Can this be the reason my car is blackening the oil everytime?

Thanks in advance

i wouldn't be using 10/40 in an evo for a start but ide say your thinking too much into oil colour.. If you change oil in a diesel engine it will be black in 5 mins!

Which oil would u recommend? So in all evos oil turn black quickly? A friend also has and evo 4 and I believe his oil does not turn black so fast. He also uses 10w 40 but semisynthetic

I use 10/60 castrol but everyone has there own preference, if you go on any oil maufacture sites they tell you what to use but 10/40 i woudnt use!
A mate of mine has a fully forged engine at it turns the oil black fairly quick!
If your engine sounds good and not burning oil dont worry about the colour.
Do you do much milage between services?

You should be using 5/40 for a standard evo and not 10/40 semi. Oil will change colour in an evo after 15/20 mins so thats nothing to worry about but get the 10/40 muck out of your evo mate. 10/60 for forged engines, race, rally and track days. Lucas, fuchs, millers or castrol oil. Smoking can be your valve stem oil steals, build up of deposits in the engine, over fuelling etc. Use an engine flush and run for 5 mins and change the oil to a decent 5/40 synthetic oil.

Yes! I asked him once sometime ago before doing this last change. He suggested me to use some cheap semi synthetic oil for like a week and then use the good one. But didnt really gave me any specific oil thickness eventhou I told him my milage and specs (stock loading 1.2bar)/160,000kms.

I barely drive my car. At most I take it out 2 to 3 times a week and in kms that would be about 100kms tops.

My engine runs smooth :D Just the little ovefueling/running rich problem that I have. No one here has an AFR or wideband to check it out. No good evo mechanics here in my city. :(

The smoking will not be stem seals. That will be because its running rich. Smoke on heavy acceleration will never be stem seals.
Also you will find a lot of people on here will use 10/50 synthetic. Why do you have a problem with 10/40?

So was it better using the 5w 50 Fully synthetic instead of the 10w 40 Fully synthetic as well? What problems could I face if I wait until my next oil change (6months/5k kms tops)

As I said. As far as I know (I bought my car 2nd handed from japan) my car is pretty much stock. But I load 1.2bar and somewhere I read stock boost for my evo was 0.7.

5/40 for a std or low modded evo 10/50 for high end evo 500bhp etc. Always use a fully.fuchs Titan race pro is very good and is the only oil i use and most other are the same, or miller's:)

sorry for the terrible bump

im using 5/30 fully synthetic is that ok for my 4 engine?

i see FUCHS TITAN RACE at £42 at many grades, but is that stuff not only for track/race use?

i dont race the evo, i give it the odd blast but never constant, so i dont see the need to use Fuchs unless Evo engines need that?
