Hello

I have a £15k budget for an Evo and after looking at a couple of 360 IX's yesterday I think I'm swaying towards a lower BHP X.

I do prefer the shape/spec and I do really fancy the Auto/paddle shift also as I do quite a bit of either motorway or city centre driving (I'll get on the twisty roads at weekends) and I'm a lazy bugger.

Should I step back to a IX and higher BHP or stick with the X?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Is it easy to up the BHP of a 300 if I decide I want to at a later date and what kind of cost involved?

Hi and welcome. Personally I'd go for a 9 fq320 or 300 and spend the rest on modding it to 5-600hp :)

Can easily get the power up on a 300 for not too much (£1k should see you right)

It is really dependent of preference and if you prefer the looks of the X, then that is what you should go for.
One thing to have in mind is modding, the X SST is known for being able to cope with 380-390 bhp and similar tourque, however after this you seem to have to spend a lot of money on modding the SST box.

I have the SST and I really enjoy it.......
Before everyone else starts as well.......
There has been a few issues with the SST box, but then so has it been with the manual and with boxes on older models.
Each model seem to have a scare that gets blown out of proportion and for the X t is the SST box. If it goes wrong out of warranty it could be costly but there are a few 'specialist', TRL in particular who can now work on the boxes and save £'s compared to a main stealer.

There has also been a few, I know of 2 cars, that has thrown a rod. Again if you want high power, forging might be a good idea.

Having the above in mind though, the majority of the X's has never had any issues but you never tend to hear the good stories.

If you were closer I would have taken you out in mine :)

Thanks for the responses.

I'm not interested in buying the car to change it beyond recognition but I may fancy getting a little more power in the future.

Tomorrow the hunt continues

Mine is lowered on Eibach pro springs, have ralliart mudflaps, carbon vortex, new rear light clusters and a scorpion twin pipe exhaust, done me nicely so far.
My next will be a re-map but below 400 so I dont have to start on the box just yet. After that it is saving for forging

Evo X defintely the right choice mate from a fellow owner! Welcome to the site btw!

Mitsubishi designed the X with more road driving in mind, nice comfortable interior with in built sat nav, music HDD, bluetooth, big boot, nice sound system, very nice car to drive and the S-AWC is awesome! My opinion is though, if you are buying an Evo, it's got to be a manual, but my mate owns an SST and he is just as happy so i suppose its down to preference!

good luck with the buy!

Hi M8, you will love any Evo you decide to get, just depends on what you want and as bradders said the X is a bit more civilised and I agree that you gotta have a manual, thats why I went for the 360 (and also the Mrs won't drive it, whereas a SST she would of.. eek). All good motors and with any model suped up there gonna be issues. I still have my MG ZS180, loadsa peeps had nightmares with them. Mine coming up 60k and has been faultless for 8 years. Pretty sure my FQ gonna be the same :)

Don't knock the SST until you have 'really' tried them :ninja:

Ain't knocking them at all m8 :) I would of got a FQ330 sst and was looking forward to it as Mrs could of driven it, tried the Outlander sst she was going to get and it was fun even in that lol. But just couldnt resist when the 360 came up on the salesmans computer and that was what I wanted since they were launched, manual just feels right to an old man like me lol.
