Basically which is the better option? Guessing studs will be stronger and more of a pain to fit...asking as seen a set of studs at a decent price and wonder if they are worth it or just to wait and get bolts?

There is not much difference in tolerance and the head bolts are more than capable. They do not have to be ARP as there are others on the market every bit as good just not with the same name recognition as ARP but for all the difference in price i would stick with ARP

Thanks mate..

Just seen a set of arp studs at a good price so not sure if to go for them..guess once they are in the block the head and gasket just slide on..

Like you would rather stick with arp :)

Yea but a bit more care must be taken as you have to secure these into the block first all the way home and then have your gasket and head supported above your block and line all up as you lower it onto the studs. If they ar eat the right money buy them mate :)

Thanks Phil...

Will have a look into it, used bolts before on cars but never head studs..time to weight up the cost savings over the fitting

Only takes a few more minutes using the studs rather than the bolts. Take a look on ebay other forums for forged rods and pistons people are selling as they have changed their mind or have only done limited miles and for the price of a set if rings out a new set in if buy 2nd hand forged pistons and are the same size as your block bore... it is cheaper buying a forged engine that someone is selling and already run in. Just need a remap then and away you go :)

may got for the studs, being as I could save myself a fair wack of money which can be put to better use! Yeah will have a trawl around see what I can find..

See I was trying not to think about doing that just yet  would have to be cheap ;) seen before people selling used rods and pistons.. not a bad idea to prevent rod failure. be re considering the budget to do that, but would mean Indigo could make the most of the other parts in the car

You getting Indigo to do your work? They are sound lads down there and have had dealings with them in the past. :awesome: :)
You van buy a fully forged lump second hand cheap ready to set into your evo and you always have your own lump then to sell and get some of the money back.... you could have a fully forged lump doing it this way for anything between £750-£2000 depending on spec. Gives you the chance to have the funds to do many other things to your evo. Worth giving it a thought mate. :)

Well getting a quote for the work.. see if its worth them doing everything or i fit and send up there to be got running..Know they are a top outfit. I have though about going down that route, buying another forged bottom end and selling my engine on. More a case of funds and time than anything. Did get some interest in selling the engine complete.

Need to go and have a good chat with Ant see what they think. Maybe rod job..

I would send them the head from a forge lump you buy as you can check the bottom end yourself but if unsure send the whole lump to be looked over, checked and the head serviced and maybe a bit more porting done if required depending on the turbo set up you have.
You still require a full head gasket set and labour costs to pay but still a cheap fully forged engine with peace of mind knowing its been checked over for not a lot of money.
There still is no feeling in the world though like you get from having your originl engine fully forged, all new parts, head done and delivering you more BHP than you expected or a newly built fully forged engine. :awesome::awesome::awesome:
