When diffs go bad!

My rear diff died a couple of weeks ago so between bouts of grinding, sand blasting and welding on a beetle I decided to strip it and see what went wrong.

This doesn't look encouraging!

This side is ok.

As is this bit

I'm sure these bits aren't meant to be that shape!

Shit is it ayc? looks fooked only takes one piece of gear to fook the lot up mines due all transmission oil changing so best get it done !!! Hope you find a cheap replacment!

I did indeed. Had the car back on the road the same week. I just took this one apart to see if I could salvage anything

The AYC bit is the bit that's fine!

Ouch, yeah I got pics like that as I've killed 2 AYC diff's to date, the first one I cracked the outer casing so bad some of it fell off!
