Just been to the shop and when I was putting the car in the garage I could hear a slight tapping noise from the engine. I hadn't used the car since sept and have just done a 600 mile round trip in it over the weekend. The car ran faultless. before I used it I had a service, plugs oil filter etc and used gulf competition 5/40 for the first time.

Noise is fairly quiet and gets faster as the engine is revved.

I tried to get a sound clip on my phone, you can just make out the noise if you listen carefully.

Any ideas?

I'm not 100% sure where you've stuck the camera there, but it sounds to me like a sticky lash adjuster. Have you got the uprated ones in your car?

I thought it was an exhaust gasket leak at first, but i THINK thats to do with where the camera is, but if its the faint one you can JUST hear in the background which isn't totally linear with the rest of the revving, then its a lash adjuster..i think..

I think you're right steve, will do another oil change and see if that cures it, I don't have updated lash adjusters..........yet:sad:

Oil change won't cure it then. Its deposits and air in them, you need to replace them, so save your money and get them done.

Or just clean the existing lash adjusters.

I've been told even the 3mm ones start making that noise after a while

I uprated mine even though mine were fine and the 3mm ones are fine so far, regular oil changes and you shouldn't see an issue it's just when dirty oil cloggs them that it's a problem
