First off im not even sure if it the fuel pump as im not clued up on cars.

Am i correct that when u turn the igition on, the winding up noise(for lack of a better word) is the fuel pump?

Well anyway i start my evo 4 this morning for work and that same noise is EXTRA loud then it goes REALLY distorted, Start the car and you can still hear the winding nosie allthough its not as messed up as before. It doesnt stop when driving also as i had to take it to work (DID NOT WANT TO)

please help!

Actually i think is the power steering pump as the sound is coming from the drivers wheel and not the back seat where ive heard the pump is?. Where in the engine bay is it located? And any tips to check it?

Indeed the fuel pump is under the bench seat in the back. Check the steering fluid it's a metal tank on the left hand side as u look under the bonnet,

hi

just a idea to rule the pump out .

un plug the pump under the rear seat and put the ignition on again and have a listen :O)

i cant really think of any thing that side of the car , osf , that could make that noise when not running ,

do your window washers / inter cooler spray work could it be one of the pumps running on its own out of water ???

.

too me it sounds like your washer pump or the intercooler pump is jammed on!! Thats the only things under the drivers side front wheel arch first off put the wheel on full left hand lock and feel both the pump for vibration when its making the noise if you feel one is buzzing disconnect the electrical connector and hopefully the noise will be gone!!! let me no how you get on

OMG! thank you so much! It was the intercooler pump. I didnt know that it still had the pump in the car as the button doesnt work and everything else has been removed, it was still plugged in and working automaticly i guess.
Now that i know that the pump is still in the car it worth setting it all back up?

again thank you, and everyone else that posted!

PROBLEM SOLVED!
