Balance belt snapped

Has anyone had this it was lucky I booked it in for. New timing belt and service when the stripped it they rang me saying I am very lucky that the balance belt had snapped but engine is ok

Would there of been any symptoms for it ??
How long would the engine hold having that happen

The only thing I notice now is the turbo spooling a lot better now it's fixed lol
It's just putting mind at rest as I am new to this type of problem thank u

very lucky the broken belt didnt take out the cam belt and crank sensor :O)


you would have felt some vibration and the engine might not have wanted to rev as freely ,

thats now giving you the feeling that its spooling better with a smother power curve .

when the balance belt snaps as said can take out the cam belt / crank sensor and for good measures will bend most of the valves in the head and possibly ruin some guides in the prosess :O(

i had one snap on my evo VII was just before it was due to be changed.
the bits wiped out the crank sensor but it didnt stop there, bit of it went between cambelt and bottom pully causing the belt to slip which in turn altered the timing and sent all 8 inlet valves straight into the pistons.

fortunatly the valves stayed in one piece as they have been know to break off leaving them rattling around in the bores.

my balance shafts were then removed

i removed mine and one of the best thinks i ever did :O)

it brought the engine to life made it revvy and responsive and not that much vibration well a bit but nothing like when i fitted comp engine mounts :O(

to example the differance with the shafts it revved more like a v6 engine with out the shafts it revs like a 4 cyl engine :O)

defo worth doing :O)

was a sad sad day, i just pulled away and gave it a bit, nothing mad and lost power half way into boost and that was that

it gets worse, i have litterly less than an hour ago just finished changing the crank sensor AGAIN ha ha, oh how i love my evo :shock::shock:

mine was already snapped when due for cambelt change. Lucky really, a clear cut resting on the bottom completely out of the way. Took it out and it had moulded itself to the shape of the cover on the bottom. Must have been like that for sometime. Not had any issues, noise, vibration.... tbh it was much quicker on acceleration without it- but of cause I prefer to have it in place.

this pretty much shows you whats involved in the conversion :O)


all i will say is i didnt buy a kit when i did mine i had the weights removed on the oil pump shaft and refitted it and just removed the belt from the other shaft leaving it floating , its now been that way for 2+ years .

so my shaft looked like this ams race shaft . keeping the oe bearing and adding extra support to the shaft that the eliminator stub doesnt ...
