Air con explosion!

My air con blew up on the way home from work yesterday :sad:

Was driving along and a big pop from under the bonnet. Then a bunch of steam escaped from the vent for about 1 second.
Pulled over and it looks like someone has jizzed all over the underside of my bonnet :shock:

I think it's a pipe that's burst. The one that goes down behind the radiator. Couldn't have happened at a better time. Right in the middle of a bloody heatwave :blush:

What is it then? Whatever the liquid was it went onto the turbo and manifold so evaporated pretty sharpish. The stuff left on the underside of the bonnet felt a bit like washing up liquid but was clear.

Also not the R134a refridgerant is also the pump lubricant!

So. Is it damaging the pump by driving it?

No, only when engauged but as its lost all its refridgerant it wont come on because of the pressure sensor

My friend had a silver V a few years back and it did the same thing :shock:

The bearings shat themselves in my aircon pump, rattled like mad just before they went and generated so much heat that when I stopped the car to see what the rattle was where the belt sat across the pulley it melted through the belt and had a nice cloud of smoke, oh well, rs belt went on the next day and aircon pump, pipes, rad and fan was removed
