It cant have escaped your notice but its dark, cold and wet outside now. Winter has come and brought with it tricky driving and lots or crud to attack our beautiful cars.
Here are some tips to a sucessfull winter:

If you are parking your car up for winter:
  • Think about buying a [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001325I92?ie=UTF8&tag=x0d-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B001325I92"]trickle charger[/ame] for your car.
Batteries will go flat if left. This can damage the battery and it may lose your radio code
  • Leave your can on stands
Tyres can get damaged when they have the weight on one part only and this is made worse with the cold and damp
  • Leave your hand brake off
Other wise it is almost guaranteed to be stuck on when you want to drive again next year
  • Think about your environment
If possible the car should be in a constant temperature garage with minimal humidity but we don't live in a perfect world. If you have to park outside for a long time consider a car cover, but do consider these can trap moisture under them too (so they are not always a good idea)
  • Run the engine every few weeks
Its important to start the engine and run it to temperature every so often

If you are still driving your car:
  • Regular washing
The sheer amount of mud, salt and other general crud which gets on the road and all over your car in this weather is unbelievable. Regular washing and waxing is a must!
Pick up some Meguiars or AutoGlym!
  • Lights & Glass
Its imperative to be able to see where you are going! Having decent quality, working bulbs is a must. Windscreens need to be clean on the inside too to ensure you don't get glare from oncoming lights.
  • Tyres
Tyres are the bits which keep you out of the hedge bottom and during the wet months they have to work that bit harder at it so make sure they are in good condition!
  • Mudflaps
Always a good idea to reduce the amount of crud going on your paintwork!
