The max safe power limit on an Evo 5 engine is about 400 BHP, but I would not push past 380 BHP. With those mods it really depends on how much boost you plan on running.

my aim is 400/400 when i got some spare cash to start changing internals but if i can get say 360bhp then i will be happy untill i can start changing parts

360 should be no bother with that setup. TBH, you can make 360 with the stock Evo 5 turbo and injectors no bother running about 1.5/1.6 bar.

I wouldn't push a standard Evo 5 engine fast 340/350 cos the rods are so weak

what power will the stock pistons take if i change the rods to cope with the power??

You can't just change the rods on a 5 cos the pistons can't be machined to take the pin so you'll need pistons as well and if your in this far then best to change the oil and water pumps for safety sake plus add to that new headgasket head and main studs and also new bearings etc etc etc 2k should do it :)

Stock 5 internals can take 350 all day long mate. Providing they are in good condition to begin with obviously. Actually, one 5 I mapped maded 370 BHP @ 7000 RPM with 1.55 bar peak, holding 1.4 bar, and that was on a safe map because the owner did not want to push it. lol :wtf:

His power mods were full 3" turbo back exhaust (inc de-cat),ARC airbox, hardpipe kit, cold air feed, 3-port solenoid (1.55 bar peak, holding 1.4 bar),Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump and a remap.

Car has been running strong for the last 6-7 months and it's his daily drive.

The max "safe" limit on a 5/6 engine would be about 380 BHP in my books. However there is a car over the road running 2.0+ bar on stock turbo, internals, etc and its made 420ish BHP and similar torque IIRC, but that's really pushing the limits IMO.

Some 5 and 6 engines have let go with less power than 350, but it all depends on the condition of the stock internals when you begin. Start with an engine that is already weak and it won't last, start with a good strong engine and it will live forever.

sounds good to me it's just if the rods could be changed then i could stretch to do them so i could get abit more power but if they cant then 350bhp sounds good to me;)

so if a rod snapped in a five then you would have to replace pistons aswell??

i know with a rod job they put 156mm rods in to give it a longer stroke so therefor its 6 pistons and up but what im trying to say is can i put 150mm rods capable of 650bhp in with out changing the pistons??

sorry if it sounds like im repeating myself i just want to make sure i do it all right the first time round..

I don't think so mate, but I am not an engine builder, so best ask someone who knows this stuff inside out. Jamie@Evotune on here should be able to help you out with that.
