As some of you may know my cars screwed, I was told that number 1 bearing had spun and the others were starting to spin. Also that my crank is done with and had a groove you could feel with your nail, and that the rod had been ruined by the shell spinning.
Well I have got the engine out of the car yesterday and today I split the engine from the transmission so its on its own.
For my own curiosity I decided to grab the Sump off and assess the damage so I did I got the bottom of the con rod off and had a feel of the crank, felt nice and smooth and had a nice reflection to it, so I checked the others and it appears all well and good, but what do I know I'm only a phone salesman so I asked my dad and his mate to have a peak and see what they thought and they both said it all looks hunky dory, the shells that I was given the day I was at corten miller one of them which was aparantly off number one has only just showed the copper so there is indeed wear, but its not spun as the cross hatchings on the back of the shell are still there.
Now in my limited knowlege the bearings are designed to go before any major componants and only one of mine has only just started wearing.
Also because its so minor there would be no visible swarf in the oil so couldn't have been detected.
Now this is basically due to oil starvation I'm not disputing that but the good thing is that the car has not been run much so ce its gone.
My dad wants to get the crank out next week ish and get it to a specialist and get it miked and if its not egged, get it polished, get some bearings and rebuild from bottom.
What do you guys think of this
