turbo whistling/squealing ideas.

just had my evo fitted with secondhand 8 engine and turbo.
everything working ok but when giving the car some go. you get a whistleing/squealing sound like a possible air leak or something. it has my mechanic scratching his head
problem is does'nt do it on idle so seems to be hard to find where its coming from. has anybody had this problem before? it does'nt sound like a bearing giving up. so makes me think it is air escaping from somewhere.....

check the pipes that come from the turbo m8 thats what it sounds like if it only does it when the engine is under load

pressurize the inlet if you want to definatively find if there is a leak or not, and I would visually inspect the turbo shaft/blades for play damage etc.

cheers guys all hoses have been checked/changed. turbo seems ok. am thinking there could be a hole in my intercooler? took a fair beating from a stone last year, am thinking the bigger turbo may have helped finish it off. my mechanic is hopefully checking if it is this tomorrow.

tiny gasket between the turbo and the pipe for the intercooler tiny pinhole in it sealed it up and its gone so hopefully sorted it out. on another note the ecu in the car is a jspeed ecu so dont know if i want to swap it for the standard 6 or not... what do you guys think?

I hear that that you have a piggy back ECU buddy.

Drop Jamie a PM, he might be able to advise you on what potential is available or if it is better off removed.

have decided to put the vi ecu on instead. as soon as i can afford it i will be getting cossie1 to work his magic on it. as for the jspeed piggyback on the iv ecu, i plan to sell it. but first i got to find out what it does.
will put some photos and info of it as soon as i get a chance.

Does it have the connecting cables and CD ROM with it???

I have never heard of that particular piggy back and I have come across many over the years.

sorry mate out of my depth here. looks like a mini ecu wired on top of the iv ecu, with a small jspeed logo on it. if by cd rom you mean have i got a disc with it. no i have'nt, i came across it when we were swapping the iv ecu for a vi. there are small bits of info about jspeed on mlr, apparently they are a jap tuning company?
