Starting problems :(

Well lads, went out the other morning and car (evo 5) wouldnt start, just clicked, took the starter off, got it checked was working fine, put it back on, tried it and i notice a buzzing sound, seems to be coming from under the intake manifold and when that stops buzzing one of the relays clicks beside the shock on the passenger side :wtf: any one got any ideas? its got me lost :sad: Thanks in advance

Have you checked battery volts if its slightly down on power it won't start it it will just click

The starting system on the 4/5/6 is extremely simple, so trying to source the problem shouldn't be too trivial. I'd suspect the starter motor might be to blame if your voltage is around 12-14v

Checked the battery and its showing 12.6v, i got another battery to be sure to and still the same, the motor worked fine in the guys machine tho :/ he did say it still could be faulty be was unlikely, any chance it could be the ignition switch?

The buzzing clicking sound coming from the inlet is normal mate.
Have you tried starting it with jump leads ??

Tried that to, i guess ill go back and check everything again, must be something simple that im missing

Does the engine not turn over at all ? And also do the lights and wipers etc work as normal ?

Yup everything working fine that way, there a very slight hum from the starter, as if it can turn?

Could the humming be coming from one of the ancilory parts

your dead right, its not coming from the starter, im thinking the negative could be bad? the starter is kicking out but not spinning on the car but will on the test machine?

Could well be the starter then. Sounds like the Solenoide is throwing the shaft out but it's not turning ?

Ya thats exactly it but works fine when out of the car, i should have 12v between the + and - yes? because i dont

Didn't u say you had the starter checked?

yup thats the thing, its ok when out of the car and doesnt work when its in the car, if the ignition switch was playing up the shaft wouldnt be thrown out?
