They are both good. It ultimately depends on your budget. The Iridium plugs offer a better spark, which equates to more performance gains and better fuel economy.

You will just get what you had in mind any way so good luck and don't forget to let us know what you go for.

HKS are better, in fact, they are the best. If there is no budget issues then go for them. They last a hell of a lot longer and are easier to clean for re-use a re-point. I don't car what any on else has to say about them as the Evo WRC team and almost all the Evo enthusiasts in Japan can't be wrong can they???

I wouldn't go for the hks as I've heard a few horror stories of the tips coming off and wrecking engines, they are just renamed denso plugs..........and cost an absolute fortune:eek:

go with the ngk bpr7es (bpr8es if running higher than stock boost)

these cost about £2.50 each and loads are running them with excess of 600BHP

It is due these so called horror stories as to why I stated that the WRC team used them regardless to what any one has to say. If they were inferior or Denso renamed to HKS then they would not hold a Patent number, Denso would. I have heard these horror stories from some one who knows of some one who told them that some one they know had that problem:confused::confused::confused:

To this day I have never come across some one first hand that has had it happen to them.

They are the best and have a proven track record.

They do the same job ,more or less as the NGK Iriduim but as Mr Lancer says budget is no problem then why not HKS???

I'm sure wrc teams will change them every race.

but why waste your money when the cheap ngk I've mentioned have more than proved themselves and with cars with a lot more power than wrc cars.

at £2.50 each you can change them at every oil change.

(hks ones dropped a tip in a mates 63 engine a few years back.......needless to say he only runs ngk now)

Just a little interesting information that I would like to pass on.

Plugs are all subject to heat rating.
Blow off's are the result of having the wrong heat rated plug in your engine.

For example:
If you are running standard BHP on a Evo IV, the stock plug will suffice. If you change to an Iridium plug the performance will increase due to the spark becoming sharper which in turn creates greater combustion and helps out with fuel economy too.

It is due to this fact that HKS is the best, as there point is the finest. It is not visible to the naked eye, hence the Patent as all plug manufacturers would love to have the specs!!!

On the high end BHP engines the stock plug will be better as the tip is thicker but not necessarily as the big boys use methanol or other cooling systems to abate the scorching bore temperature down.

HKS use these plugs in their 1100+ BHP engine.

if the op has money to burn then fair enough.

as you said plugs shouldn't break up.......in perfect conditions, but as we know things dont always run perfectly with our engines (still yet to hear of the nkg breaking up and causing engine failures........not to say it wont happen, but haven't come accross it yet.

have heard of several people haveing running issues, missfires etc running expensive plugs and soon as they switch to the cheap ones there issues have been cured.

the 7 and 8 heat range nkg plugs have been running for a long time now on standard evos to evos running 2.3bar of boost (with and without meths/water)

all imo

dam im confused ?
from my knowledge, if the car upgraded alot then standard plugs usually the best as i experienced this before from a different car.
my IV is more or less standard so there for some good plugs will do me just right'
its got standard ngk's in at the moment which been in since it was imported last year & not the best of condition so require a change.
still going for the denso platinums as ordered. £40 all in.

Sponners,
you will probably never hear of the NGK breaking up!!! They are right thick plugs and will probably withstand horrendous bore temperatures, saying that, they actually do.

The point you made of changing them at every oil change interval is Valid too. it all boils down on money to burn like you said. I run Iridium myself and just brush them when I change the oil.
