something went clunk

mine has been sqealing for awhile now bro just took it to work



so i get the phone call "errr i heard a loud clunk then i had no steering",so ive gone out to him in his car as he was going to be late for work and on the way ive seen the pully wheel off my car in the middle of the road



so picked it up then drove 100yards further hes at the side of the road with hazards on get in the car battery light is on and got no steering



the pully wheel has grooves in it and 3 tiny holes drilled into the side i think its the part 48055a on mitsi tech site



what i want to know is what damage do u think has been done and whats involved to fix it?

I suspect that it is just a case of getting the pulley back on and a ribbed belt fitted.

A little tired right now after a very late night and need to get a bit of shut eye.

I am a little stumped as to how the pulley came off though!!!

i've heard of the crank pulley falling off several times but not the steering pump pulley.

you need to find out whats happened for it to come off.......just loose bolts, stripped threads, bent pulley etc


but dont drive the car as it is as that belt also drives the water pump!

it isnt the powersteering pully after all its the middle pully but the rest of it is still attatched to the engine,its the one where u can see it through the drivers wheel

any ideas anybody?

that is the crank pulley mate, the other part will still be bolted to the crank with a rubber outer.

as said earlier commonish fault so just get a new one (not an uprated 'solid' one) and you'll be good to go again.......hopefully you din't run the engine long without the belt on because of cooling issues.

no the car was cold had only just left my road when the bang happened then literaly 10mins passed and car was back at home in the garage safe an sound heater hadnt even gone to a quarter mate,how much will the pully be and how hard is it to change?

sorry for all the questions just i havnt a clue when it comes to these cars just yet,im a cossy man usually

right looks like it is deffo the crank pully read some horror stories on mlr just but im getting varients in prices and looks like its something i can do myself

does anybody on here know the best place to get a crank pully and also rough price im seeing prices of 50.00 upto a hundred but thats camskill an i rekon there expensive at the best of times!

Just what I thought this morning. Common enough problem that will get every 1 in 100 owners or so at some point!!!

did you drive the car for ten mins without the belt on? remember temp gauge wont give a accurate reading as the hot water around the cylinders stays there and not flowing past temp sensor.

I doubt that there is any damage done buddy.

Sponners has a valid point, but if the car was driven to the bottom of the road and the pulley dropped off around halfway down then you should be fine.

RallySlag was on the tracks and hitting over 100mph when his came loose, luckily he got away with it!!!

Change the pulley, connect the belt and monitor everything for a good half hour or so (engine temp etc. and see if the rad fan kicks in too).
