Was going to say at £500 that sounds like an ecutek re-map, as you are paying for the initial licence fee on your first map so any further re-mapping would come in a lot cheaper.To change the pump on the 8 you do it by removing the back seat

Fair play, but a Blitz boost controller (or any other for that matter) will add about £200+ onto the bill.

3-port solenoid is £75 max. If you are lucky you can get them for under £30!! Then it's just a bit more time to map in the boost control via the ECU, but would still work out a fair bit less than a standalone, means less stuff in the cockpit and ECU has full control over the boost. However any boost controller will work, but if you go for a 3-port you will need a gauge fitted into the car to monitor boost, standalone controllers will show you boost via the display.

Oh, and you MIGHT need a stiffer actuator to help hold boost up top. I have had 1 or 2 cars that simply could not hold boost up top (past 5500 RPM) and tailed off down to 1.2 bar by redline due to the actuator. However, some cars hold boost up top just fine with the stock actuator.

no thats great chap, learnt alot off you, when i questioned them, they said as an example, when they were trying to sell the ecutec to me it was like subraru using prodrive, ecutec to mitsubishi, would car be ok then on its internal boost controller with the three way valve?

Yeah with the 3 port boost solenoid you can use boost controller of let the ecu control the boost but I would get a boost gauge for price of mind as you will know whoever you kicking to much boost out or not....

Ah, ok, their analogy is more confusing than helpful TBH, but fair play, I can see what they are trying to say. Yes, using a remapped stock ECU and 3-port solenoid will be just fine. Standalone boost controllers use a 3-port solenoid to control boost. The only difference with this is instead of having a seperate box to control boost the ECU will do it all.

Just be sure to ask them if they know how to setup a 3-port. It's not difficult, but if they never mentioned it, then worth asking if they can do it.

Oh, like I said in my earlier post you'll need a boost gauge in order to keep an eye on it with a 3-port. With a standalone controller it shows you boost on it's display, so a seperate gauge is not needed.

yer i had an ST3, sure it had boost gauge, supprised evo doesnt have one, is it something reasonable to buy and fit yourself. i have vertually skint myself lately, bought the car £13000, insured it, new brakes, tax, coucil tax, run two other vechicals, £3000 plus o n suspension, £2000 this month on snap on van, new rifle last month. i want to get in head what i want to do to car and save and do it all at once, but slowly the bill is getting bigger. well hope econamy is enjoying my spending!!!
