hey guys, I've posted this in the mlr, but gonna post the same thing here. hoping someone with more knowledge than me can help me out................
so, let's get straight to the point.................
about a month ago, my V started acting up. making a weird noise that would increase around 4000 RPM. it also developed a rattle that would go away when the clutch pedal was depressed. that eventually led to loss of power, CEL's, not starting and eventually, complete shut down. would turn over, but not fire.
I suspected a timing issue, so took everything on that side of the motor apart. turned out the balance belt had broken. in fact, it was completely destroyed. the crank sensor (completely destroyed) and the trigger plate (badly bent) were also damaged. I replaced both belts, all the idlers/tensioner pulleys and a new hydraulic tensioner. problem solved.
a little more than a week has passed since I fixed it and the car has started throwing CEL's and not starting again. no noises or rattles this time/yet. I've also noticed that the radio will occasionally go dead for a split second and that the electrical system doesn't like it when the A/C is working. the lights on the dash flicker and the whole system just sorta slows down, if that makes any sense. I'm assuming I've got a bad ground/earth as far as that's concerned. as far as the CEL's and not starting is concerned, I'm afraid that the same problem is back, which means the only thing I fixed was the symptom(s) and not the actual cause.
I had originally thought that perhaps the balance shaft blew out and just took everything with it, but that's obviously not the case. the only thing I can come up with is perhaps the crank is somehow moving around and causing it to destroy all the parts that I replaced. I'm really hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction. this is my daily driver, so you can imagine how desperate I am here.
thanks
Rich
