Possible new Evo owner

Hello people,

I am currently seriously looking at purchasing an Evo 5 in the next few months!

Basically i'm wondering what i should be looking for before i go out on the mooch! Usual faults and things to look out for etc??

Budget is going to be between 5 and 6k as its to be my toy for off shift days!

For 6k go for 6 or 7

Or get a really nice 5 for 6k.

Things to look out for are;
Rust-at the front under the battery and powersteering reservoir. At the rear lift up carpet and give both sides and the spare wheel well a good push. Also have a good prod undernieth.
AYC-Lights should come on when you click on the ignition but should go off once started and should not come on whilst driving.
Check history-The more recipts, mot's etc the better. If they claim it's got parts, you want to see recipts for them.

Other than that it's pretty much general car stuff. Obviously look out for smoke etc.

have looked at 6's and 7's too but just dont fancy them the way i do the 5!

So 6k should get me a nice 5? do any of you know a link for the servicing intervals?? because i have read that at 60k is a major service that can be a bit pricey? just wanna do some more research really!!

Being a 5 it WILL be an import, in which case that part of the history will have probably been in japan.

Most, however, have had cambelts etc done once imported. Ensure you see proof of this. Otherwise as a general rule of thumb you want to see engine service every 4.5k and gearbox/diff/ayc/transfer box every 9.

Another thing I've just thought to check is turn the wheel on both locks. If you hear clicking whilst you pull away it could be worn transfer box bolts.

Great advise from Tom. Yes the VI is very similar to the V.

Spend your money on a good V don't scrape the barrel of newer cars, they're cheaper for a reason.

Yes pretty much identical other than bumpers, spoiler and seats.
