PayPal fraud

Well... I got an email telling me to log into my PayPal last week and check the transactions so I did, saw nothing untoward so ignored it. Few days later got an email saying my account was restricted and I had to log in to verify ect. I have up trying to deactivate due to jumping through too many hoops and this morning got an email saying 'transaction not authorised' and to log in via a hyperlink in the email, and add another card or choose another account.

So I called PayPal and it turns out the email I got this morning wasn't from them and chances are if I had logged in using the hyperlink someone would have obtained all my details so I had lucky escape.

Turns out someone tried accessing my account from USA and china last week so PayPal restricted the acc due to unusual activity. Best guess is that they have hacked my gmail and tried my password for my email on my PayPal and struck lucky.

So a word of caution people if you use the same password for PayPal and something less secure like an email I would recommend changing it. PayPal customer service was spot on, got through on phone quick and sorted out everything on the phone

Had a fraud on mine last year. They got into mine and sent a payment to themselves for £300 dollars and immediately refunded it, only the refund takes a few days to process by then they cleared their account and kept the money.

Got it all back through PayPal though.

Glad you got it all sorted.

I use yahoo mail.
If you hover the mouse over who the mail came from it'll normally be some weird address like xybhgrx.com or something similar.
I then just delete the email without opening it.

I get these kind of emails all the time, I just ignore them.

DONT click on any links in these sort of emails!!!

To check if its legit, type the paypal URL directly into your browser instead.

I always click on the link and "login" using my username (DIRTY SCAMMING CU*T) and my password (I HOPE YOU DIE IN A DITCH) and it always logs on correctly and accepts my new credit card details that I make up to waste even more of their time
