No Tax or Mot

Hello boys and girls

over the last few days some thing has really been getting my back up as some of you may know my car is (SORN) and off the road at this time. And it got me thinking when my mot runs out how the hell can i get it to a garage to get a mot done so i can tax it and get it back on the road so i did some digging and i got some mixed answers what i was looking for i wanted to know could i drive my car on the road without any tax or mot to take it to a garage but it will have insurance anyway i was not getting the answer and i dont want to get into trubble with the law and have my car taken off me so i sent a email to john heckels acting chief Inspector (7184) motor patrols & dogs and he kindly sent me a email back saying. Yes i can drive my car to a garage with no tax or mot long as the car has insurance and the car has been booked in advance if it fails the mot test you may drive home with your car. If it passes you can all so drive it home but you must not park it on a public road untill you have got the car taxed. So now people know who did not know like my self you can drive your car on the road with no tax or mot to a garage long as you have insurance and its been booked in advance

If you pre-book the car in for the mot you allowed to drive the car to the mot station,
Then after if it passes you can tax it providing it's insured.

As if the police pulls you they will ring the mot station to confirm the booking.

You will find this is an old wives tale and if you have No Mot No Tax you also have No Insurance! V.O.S.A & DVLA are clamping down big style and come October big changes will come into affect causing a massive headache for Buyer's and Seller's!:hm:

im agreeing with james on this, your insurance terms will state you are covered on public highway as long as its in roadworthy condition, the ONLY way you can prove roadworthynes is with CURRENT mot so driving to the test center you will be breaking the terms, this is where the law and your terms in insurance clash big time. because yes the police will allow you to drive to an mot if pre booked but they CAN and some WILL do you for no insurance.

trailer is your best bet pal keep it simple and save a lot of time hassle and money potentially

in N.Ireland, the only time we are allowed to drive without tax or MOT, is to the MOT centre

if your unsure, ring the police them selves and ask them

Thanks guys but like i said the police officer told me in his email that it will be fine to drive to a garage long as it has insurance and it has been booked in advance i have saved his email so if i do get pulled then his head be it as its there in black and white.

Well hope.all goes without a glitch but as said check ur terms on insurance ill be amazed if ypur insured without a certificate of road worthyness, so like said an ass of a cop will point out the police cheif said 'as long as your insured' then he will point out that your 'not'

I agree, as long as it's booked in then no problem.

Thanks again guys i am sure every thing will be fine. Why i have just quoted your post is becouse you just said i might not be insured without a certificate of road worthyness. So if thats the case if my car got nicked then my insurance company would not pay out as your saying it will be invalid as its not got a certificate of road worthyness so if that is the case what is the point in having car insurance in the first place i think if this was to be true i think there would be a lot of people angry by this as there is a lot of people who take the cars off the road when not in use and keep them insured.
