my baby evo white smoking!!!!!!

started my car yesterday was a bit of a damp start so gave it some juice and i noticed white smoke!!! i thought it was condensation.... but i waited and reved it again... pffffff white clouds!!!!! spoke to a mate he reckons turbo i dont understand turbos my theorey is it water cooled and therefore no oil goes in.... it pulls fine still and still starts hmmmmmm is there a way of testing the turbs???? what are the valves sleeves like in these engines??? grrrrrr also this may be me answering my own question but some disel got into the petrol tank hmmmmm i never drained it just put 43lts of 97 in could that be it and maybe a simple fuel filter change there is just under quarter left in:confused????... grrrr please dont be the turbo... can it be repared??? ony usefull replys please guys x

also the plugs failed completely last week the car wouldnt start i put new ones in and it fired up strate away they are the right plugs i checked on ngk.com BKR6E

still the white smoke is depressing me.....

just been reading over the pond...lol theres no excess oil in inlet

Sounds like its your turbo, the diesel would not make that much difference, although it will blow out white smoke, is the temperature gauge hitting the red???

Either way, you've got my address, bring it round and we will see what's what mate.
If the temperature gauge is not hitting the red and its where it usually is then you should be able to drive to me with no probs, just keep it below 3000 revs so the turbo does not kick in. You may detonate the engine!!!

no temp is fine removed the turbo and its fine no play or rubbing... thought it could be stem seals... got new filter comming and i drained the tank and pump so will se wat happens with clean fuel.

hi, im new to evos so correct me if im wrong, in my experience turbos usually have water and oil going through them and if they fail its blue smoke (oil) play in the shaft is the oil seals gone that lubricate the turbo, water cools it , i have never seen a turbo fail and create white smoke, and i used to own a gtir so have went through lots of turbos as there s**t lol. white smoke to me would indicate head gasket but then you would be losing water . how is your water level? is it dropping? , like i said new to the evo so correct me if im wrong guys cheers

yes mate thats wat i thought the turbos been off its fine no play, its not the head coz i ran it for a couple of hours wen the battery died no problem with losing water. no miss firing only a littl bit pooie from cold for like 2 min... i just put it back together today but waiting on fuel filter as ive drained out the poo from the tank... if its still smoking its got to be stem seals or rings?????

No m8 rings or valve seals would be blue smoke... basic rule white (water) blue (oil) black (fuel) , did it only smoke when the engine was cold? as cars do tend to put out white smoke till they warm up....

i would wait till you have got it running again and see if its still smokeing once warm... take it for a good drive let it cool down and check the water level, keep an eye on the temp guage though incase it does overheat m8

white smoke is head gasket and blue smoke in petrol cars is burning oil ,and i think it is head gasket mate

thanks for the advice guys!!! i put it all back together today and fired him up hes running sweet no smoke!!! its just cost me best part of 400 quid to get it sorted aa only wanted 200 o well...
