Hi,
I’m a journalist at Car Magazine and am hoping to pull together a '20 years of the Evo' feature to celebrate next year's anniversary. And I desperately need your help to make it happen!
Originally I’d hoped to get one car from every generation, but since the light is gone by 4pm these days, I’m going to have to cut my list back to seven.
It’s always going to be difficult leaving cars out but with an eye on including the most significantly different/interesting models from the last 20 years, I’ve come up with this list. Obviously you lot know better than me which are the significant cars, so I’m open to suggestions within each generation, ie if an RS is more representative than a GSR. However, while I appreciate this is going to be difficult, idealy I’m looking for examples with relatively few mods to give the flavour of what the cars were like when they were new.
An Evo 1,2 or 3
Really would like a 1 obviously to bookend the story, but are there actually any in the UK?
Evo 4
Evo 6
Probably a Tommi Makinen, simply because it's going to be recognisable to the casual non-expert reader and will stand out in pics
Evo 7
Evo 8 FQ400 or a UK 260
Evo 9
Evo X Mitsubishi to supply
I’m hoping Mitsibishi UK can povide me with a current car, but it seems they don’t have any older examples at all. So I need some help and this forum seems like the sensible place to come. Would any owners of the above cars be interested in letting us photograph their car at Brand Hatch on Friday December 2?
We’ll actually be shooting the feature on the rally track behind the circuit. We used it for a ‘30 years of Quattro’ feature a couple of years ago and it looked the business (see attached pic). To be brutally honest, photoshoots are a lot less glamorous/exciting than you might think, and it’s something you’d come along to because you’ll get some truly spectacular shots of your car and see it in every WHSmiths, not because you think you're getting a free trackday. The pics are the priority
Whoever is writing the story will need to drive your car for a couple of minutes on the road just to generate some impressions, but they will be fully insured, they will be someone with loads of experience, they won’t rag it (unless instructed to),and they won’t crash.
It would be great to get some Evos back in a mainstream car mag like Car. We, along with all the other mags, spent 10 years obsessing over Evos – I have happy memories of the Ralliart UK Evo 8 I ran at Autocar before a work experience kid wapped it round a tree at Bruntingthorpe http://www.evoowners.co.uk/images/smilies/shock.png - but they never seem to get much coverage these days. Hope you can help change that. If you think you can, drop me an email at chris@carchris.co.uk
Many thanks
