leak testing turbo lines

i have made an adapter and fitted it to the inlet pipe to the turbo. i put a threaded tyre valve onto the adapter and bought a foot pump to put the pressure into the line.

Only problem is i cant get the line to hold any pressure what so ever so im now confused, have i missed something out that i should have done?

i removed the dump valve and plugged the 2 hoses. is there anything else?

you should leave the dump valve just in case thats leaking. as long as the bung istight it should hold pressure, where is it leaking from?

Wasting you time with a foot pump it wont work you need an Air compressor.

really why is that?? i would have thought that a foot pump would be good enough to build up the pressure. i have a compressor in my work but its 30 miles away from were my car is sitting the now, would a tyre inflator that plugs into the cigaret lighter work?

Foot pump will work just takes longer. You'll be surprised how much the system takes before it pressurises. Compressor is easier and quicker, cigarette run 1 will be fine. If you still not getting any pressure then the test has done its job and you just need to locate the leak. Work through the system 1 piece at a time. Starting at the turbo Jpipe

I been leak testing cars for around 3 yrs fella and it wont work Trust me you will be there for ever trying to pump 1.5bar or alike into the system with a foot pump - Make sure the throttle is open too.

You need alot of pressure or you wont find the leak.
ie tb seals - Boost pipe ill fitting etc.

ah i didnt know about having the throttle open nice 1.

out of curiosity what happens if the throttle is not open?

Get a ton of pressure sat against the tb plate slowly leaking passed- Whole system needs to be pressurised so it shows the leaks.

Another thing try and do the test somewhere quite lol.
