Is my engine running hot?

Hello,

I know this post is looooong over due as I have been running my car for well over 6 months since the rebuild of the engine due to a warped head from the previous owner running the car with no coolant for too long.


Is this a normal reading on the coolant temp guage? I have a high rise manifold w/no heat sheild sitting directly in front of my blitz radiator. Is this normal? Car runs fine but I do not want to repair another engine :thinking:

It normally sits 3/4 of the way up for daily driving etc etc once it heats up to operating temp.

Yea mine sits in exactly the same place and never move from there wether the fans are moving or not. If your fans arnt running until after a couple minutes idling then I wouldn't worry.
The only time mine caused a problem was when I took the car on track on a hot day and and the ecu reduced the rev limit due to it getting so hot even though the temp gauge didn't move.
I am running 500bhp though and still had a standard radiator and a dodgy thermostat which I've now changed to a nice big ali rad and a cooler running thermostat and changed the sensor for the temp gauge and still it reads the same so I fitted an after Market water temp gauge from Ross sport to keep an eye on things and all seems fine, just a dodgy reading gauge

Definitely a bit of a relief. I'm just so paranoid after having to rebuild this thing! I am definitely looking into a cooler running thermostat/water temp gauge setup going as well just to keep tabs on it.

What thermostat have you got in it? None of my 6's ever got that high.

your gauge is reading higher than normal but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is running hotter, it could just be the calibration of the gauge.


if it always reads that when upto temp and the fan is kicking in and out as should then I'm sure its fine.

Its in KPH, so he's just over 75mph
