Hi guys and gals,
Have any evo x owners had to have their ipdm replaced (fusebox behind glovebox). Does a new or used unit need to be coded to the car?
The reason i'm asking is some numpty in the cars past ownership has wired a trans cooler pump 2.0mm cable (8 amp draw) via a hidden switch and inline 10 amp fuse and connected to an ignition wire 0.5 mm (poss 3 amp max) going in to fusebox.
I think you can see where this is going [emoji35]
The previous two owners never turned the pump on..... But i did flick the switch, bad odour, car wouldn't turn off with key out of ignition, every service and error message popped up on the instrument cluster, headlight squirters popped out and wouldn't return in so emptied all fluid. Aircon and fans full chat. Managed to get engine off by flicking trans pump switch again.
Took ipdm apart and found blown devices....

Ive been in auto electrics industry for 20 years + and i have never seen a total blatant disregard for basic wiring electrics. I mean how much longer would it have taken to put in a 4 pin 25 amp relay, with battery positive feed and ign signal to switch to relay and subsequently on to pump?
So ive a second hand unit hopefully arriving tomorrow with identical part numbers.......so will it work..... Any thoughts people or do you think its low load the car to the stealership for plug in?
Many thanks
Mark

Huge sigh of relief.....
Donor fusebox (Intelligent Power Distribution Module) works and car is running again YIPPEEEEEEE!
Just got to plug in snap on diagnostics to clear mil light and previous error messages, and we're good to go.
So peeps no passenger fusebox programming needed to get car running, happy days!

So to finalise this saga, i have one fault code that my diagnostics cannot erase. 'System error' ETACS b2206. Vin identification.
Basically what this means is that when the vehicle was manufactured the fusebox is linked to the car via vin number identification. Basically to stop theft, stripping and swapping of car parts.
My car is telling me this donor fusebox is not the one fitted when the car was built! Clever stuff!
So Monday popping into Mitsubishi to have them plug in and update link vin numbers. [emoji16]
