could be m8 could also be the maf or the a/f mixture

just unplug the maf it should stall be that is normal if it dose it won't be that

a/f mixture u can adjust by the screw on the top of the inlet manifold

thanks quakes but whats a MAF ?
i have played with the air & fuel mixture which makes things worse so i left it where it was originally.
i have been told by a mechanic to clean the part that sits under the throttle body unit'
is that the idle control valve?

the maf is the mass air flow which is found off the air filter/airbox big black thing with a plug on it pull the plug see if it stalls if so its fine

the part under the throttle body is the cold start valve i think
the icv is on the back of the throttle body just behind the a/f mixture little black thing
with a 3/4 wire plug its held on by 2 screws

b sure to mark it b4 removal and clean

"Hi All,
The Throttle body has 2 switches,
Switch one is known as the Speed Sensor/ Throttle Position Sensor is located behind the throttle body: It has a plug with a couple of wires. It is not relevant but worth knowing.

The second one is more relevant to this thread, It is located directly underneath the Throttle Body, this is a solenoid which is being referred to here as the cold start valve. I advise you to take this one out and replace it with a new one.

All should back to normal once done!!!

StevieITR is right, you should not rev the engine at all until the temperature needle has moved off and is above the lowest marking unless you have a couple of engines spare.

The oil needs to be warm and flowing around the engine before it can be of benefit.

You should refrain from dipping the clutch until the needle has moved too as this will help avoid crank walk which will cost an arm and a leg to cure.

It would be wise to add a good fuel additive before or after the change has been done. The additive should cost you a minimum of £10 to be considered worth while. Look for the Forte brand, It is the best hands down.

I presume you have a IV or above Mr.Lancer. If it is a I,II or III then get back to me buddy.

Have you changed the relevant part that I advised last time buddy???
Just cleaning it will not do the trick.

Is the problem with the cold satrt or is it when warm too now???

Fill me in with a broader picture and we can take it from there buddy.
